Job Overview
The Massachusetts Society for Medical Research (MSMR), the nation’s oldest regional non-profit organization supporting the biomedical research field, is seeking its next President (staff executive) to lead the organization as it enters its 72nd year. MSMR’s mission is to promote and enhance biomedical and biological research, including the humane care and use of animals, for the improved health and well-being of people, animals, and the environment. Our members are located throughout New England, and include research colleges, universities and medical centers, medical schools, biotechnology and pharmaceutical firms, professional associations, and vendor/servicer companies. The president is responsible for the overall health, growth and operation of MSMR.
Responsibilities
- Research, solicit and cultivate prospective members and provide general member service
- Deliver programs, including conferences, workshops and online learning modules
- Advocate on behalf of members, and for the use of animal models in medical research, with specific focus on:
- a. Tracking legislation and regulations across the region and, as needed, providing input to shape public policy
- b. Monitoring media, and responding as necessary
- c. Managing online presence and social media
- Writing and distributing monthly e-newsletter
- Direct outreach to students and educators, working with contracted science writers to produce monthly content for What A Year! website targeting K-12 students and teachers
- Direct governance and operations of the Board of Directors
- Manage business operations of MSMR
- Collaborate with allied organizations across the country
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree required
- Ability to manage and execute numerous large and small responsibilities simultaneously and to prioritize those responsibilities
- Strong public presentation, verbal, and written communications, including the ability to present complex information simply and compellingly.
- Legislative tracking/reporting experience strongly desired
- Ability to learn from others and to collaborate across the research advocacy community
- 5-7 years of non-profit association management, including budgeting, financial control, vendor relations, compliance requirements, and working with a Board of Directors
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
