Do you enjoy working with young people, are you curious, and do you want to pass on your knowledge?  As a Senior Lecturer, you play a crucial role in educating students. In addition to providing a solid academic education, we also place a special emphasis on the personal development of students. We support students in developing curiosity and critical thinking, thereby creating a solid foundation for the professional challenges of the next generation.

The vacant position is based at the Department of Sociology, a sub-unit of the Faculty of Social Sciences. With approximately 1,700 students, an extensive range of courses and a broad and excellent research profile, the study programme offers a sound education in all areas of sociology, including methods of empirical social research.

Your workplace:

As a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Sociology, you will mainly teach in the area of quantitative social research methods (e.g., introduction to quantitative social research, statistics, data collection, data analysis). If required, you will also teach courses in other areas of the Bachelor's or Master's degree programme (e.g., sociological research training, Bachelor's seminar). You will also be responsible for coordinating the content of specific parallel courses.

The employment level of 22.9 hours/week includes an average teaching commitment of 16 semester hours per week of academic teaching per academic year. The willingness to increase the level of employment if necessary is welcomed.

This is what you will do:

  • You will independently lead courses at Bachelor's and Master's level.
  • You will make an active contribution to the (further) development of course and examination formats.
  • You will be expected to keep abreast of the current state of the art in science and didactic training and to take on research tasks during periods when you are not teaching.
  • In addition, the assumption of administrative activities, especially in the administration of teaching, is part of the job profile.

We are looking for people who see university teaching as an interesting and challenging career field and have the following profile:

  • Completed doctoral/PhD studies in the field of sociology (or social sciences)
  • Several years of independent, relevant and highly rated teaching experience at a post-secondary educational institution
  • Enthusiasm for the transfer of knowledge and for university teaching
  • Very good command of English
