Assistant Professor of Accounting
Job Description
The Assistant Professor of Accounting will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Accounting, do academic research in the area of accounting, and advise students.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Classroom teaching
- Advising of students on an individual and sometimes confidential basis. This includes course selection and career counseling.
- Supervising internships
- Staying current in the discipline through scholarship/professional development
- Developing course/curriculum
- Serving as course coordinator
- Participating in department, college, and university functions
- Attending faculty meetings
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Committee work
- Interfacing with local companies and other mutually beneficial activities
- Public relations activities, including assistance in student recruitment events
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to speak to a group of up to 35 students in a classroom setting in an audible and understandable manner, and to hear student questions
- Ability to verbally interact with students in a classroom environment or with individual students in private meetings
- Ability to use blackboard/whiteboard or communicate graphically in some other way in the classroom
- Sufficient breadth of knowledge to teach introductory-level courses in the discipline. Sufficient depth of knowledge to teach senior and graduate courses in at least one area of specialization
- Ability to provide prompt feedback to student works
- Ability to effectively communicate with students using digital classroom
- Must meet classes on schedule and be available for consultation in their office on a regular basis
- Must stay current with academic research, be familiar with literature in the discipline, and make research contributions, including conference presentations and publishing in peer-reviewed academic journals
- Ability to write effectively in preparation of course material, internal university communications, and correspondence with external constituencies
- Sufficient interpersonal communication skill to interact effectively with students, university visitors, and administrators
HOURS:
Classes are generally held during the day, but all faculty occasionally teach evening courses. Faculty is required to meet all classes as scheduled and to keep regular office hours at times convenient for their students.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
- EDUCATION: Ph.D. in the appropriate discipline is required for tenure earning positions. A Master of Science degree with significant applicable experience may be acceptable for non-tenure track faculty
- TEACHING ABILITY: Must have ability to communicate Accounting concepts clearly and in an interesting manner to undergraduate and graduate students
- EXPERIENCE: Prior teaching and/or applicable Accounting experience is desirable
- AREA OF EXPERTISE: Depends on the areas of strength of other members of the Department at the time. Needed areas of competence will be specified in the advertisement for the position
- LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to communicate verbally and in writing in standard English
