Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The CSU AGEP (Alliance for Graduate Education & the Professoriate) Alliance for Diversity & Strengths of STEM Faculty is recruiting at least one Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the area of qualitative research. The CSU AGEP Alliance utilizes a culturally-informed strengths-based approach to advance early-career faculty success. The postdoctoral research will focus on the experiences of early career CSU STEM faculty who are from AGEP populations (defined by the NSF as faculty who are African Americans, Hispanic Americans, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders). The research is funded by NSF and will respond to the NSF call for enhanced attention to the “intersection of gender, race, and ethnicity.” The postdoctoral research scholar(s) will conduct narrative inquiry with early career AGEP faculty to capture their stories, whilst also answering the following research questions: 1) How do AGEP population STEM faculty integrate academic discipline, social and cultural identities, and strengths into their faculty identities?; 2) How do STEM faculty professional networks relate to sense of belonging, job satisfaction, academic self-efficacy, teaching evaluations, success, and engagement?; and 3) How do the structural features of professional networks relate to faculty success and engagement? The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to seek their own line of research. In addition, the CSU AGEP Postdoctoral Research Fellow may mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students and/or teach classes by separate assignment as a part-time lecturer.
The CSU AGEP Postdoctoral Research Fellow(s) will work primarily with Dr. Sonia Ramrakhiani in the School of Education at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, with additional mentorship provided by CSU AGEP Alliance PIs at CSU Dominguez Hills, Fresno State, Cal Poly Pomona, and Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. The position may be remote (within the state of California) or based in San Luis Obispo. No relocation funding is provided.
This position will begin in Fall 2024 (date to be determined according to candidate’s availability). The latest possible start date is 1/6/25. The term of employment is 12 months, with an additional 12 months possible based on performance and funding. The annual salary for this position is $66,336, with full benefits, plus a travel allowance.
