Position Summary
As a Content Strategist for Fordham Now, the University’s news platform, you will
play a pivotal role in showcasing the achievements, breakthroughs, and unique
stories that demonstrate Fordham’s impact.
You will have the opportunity to delve into the heart of our large and diverse
community, capturing stories of academic excellence, University initiatives,
student/faculty accomplishments, and fundraising success that resonate with our
many audiences-from prospective students to internal constituents to valued
donors. You will also be instrumental in driving fundraising initiatives by crafting
persuasive narratives that inspire philanthropic support and demonstrate the
impact of that support.
This is primarily a news writing position with opportunity to create multimedia
content. The person in this role reports to the Senior Director, University
Communications, and is part of the Fordham Now news team.
This is a hybrid position that requires three days in the office each week. The role
is based at our Lincoln Center campus in Manhattan but will require frequent
travel to our Bronx campus and occasional travel to other city locations
Essential Functions
News Content Creation and Strategy:
∙Writes engaging and informative articles, press releases, and features
highlighting University news, achievements, events, and initiatives.
Diversifies content types to ensure high audience engagement on many
platforms, including Fordham Now, Fordham.edu, and social media
channels.
Fundraising Content Creation and Strategy:
∙Collaborates closely with the Development team to produce compelling
fundraising narratives to cultivate donor relationships, showcase
philanthropic support’s impact, and inspire generosity toward our
University’s mission and priorities.
Research and Interviewing:
∙Conducts thorough research and interviews with faculty, staff, students,
alumni, and donors to gather content for stories. Maintains the highest
level of professionalism when interacting with University constituents.
Editorial Oversight:
∙Maintains editorial standards, upholds the University’s brand identity, and
supports marketing goals in all written and visual communications.
Reviews and edits news stories, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence
to journalistic best practices.
Relationship Building:
∙Cultivates strong relationships with key stakeholders across campus,
including academic departments, administrative offices, alumni relations,
and development teams. Collaborates effectively to gather information,
solicit feedback, and foster a culture of storytelling excellence.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
∙Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field
∙Minimum of 3 years of experience as a writer, journalist, or
communications professional, with a portfolio demonstrating exceptional
storytelling skills and a track record of producing high-quality content
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
∙Strong research abilities, with the capacity to distill complex information
into compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences
∙Excellent interviewing, listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to
connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
∙Proficiency in AP style, grammar, and proofreading, with meticulous
attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
∙Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, juggling multiple
priorities and deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude and
commitment to excellence
∙Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to
the goals of Jesuit Education.
Preferred Qualifications
∙Master’s degree in journalism or communications
∙Experience in fundraising or donor communications, with an
understanding of development principles and the ability to articulate the
impact of philanthropy
∙Familiarity with digital media platforms, content management systems, and
multimedia storytelling tools
Minimum Starting Salary: $70,000
Maximum Starting Salary: $80,000
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
