Job Description Summary
Implements, coordinates, and administers data collection protocols and procedures on funded research projects. Typically responsible for data entry, reduction, and management, in compliance with quality assurance/control protocols. Interacts primarily with research study participants, departmental staff, and the Principal Investigator.
 
Job Description
Essential Functions:
  • The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in further enhancement of the WFU’s missions and goals of research, outreach, and public service through its NanoteQ Center.
  • This position reports to (supervisor): Dr. David Carroll, Director of the Center for Nanotechnology and Quantum Materials (NanoteQ).
  • The duties of this position are in direct research of current funding initiatives (quantum computing and ionic - thermoelectric and T/PEG systems, mentoring of research, and management of the NanoteQ Center.
 
Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Carrying out independent research as well as research in the development of qubits based on topological insulator states. Some research in the use of topological structures in thermoelectrics is also planned.
  • The candidate should have experience in the following research areas, 2D materials synthesis and manipulation, SEM, TEM, AFM/MFM thermoelectric transport, magneto-transport, low temperature techniques.
  • The position will devote at least 50% of their effort to aforementioned project-related activities, 20% of effort toward maintenance of the NanoteQ Center, 15% for mentoring responsibilities, and 15% for their career development including independent research.
  • The position will be expected to develop and carry out research projects directed toward the goals of quantum information sciences and energy harvesting strategies, design and develop appropriate experimental systems, coordinate the utilization of several high-resolution microscopes, collect and analyze data, and prepare and submit manuscripts for publication. In addition, the candidate will be expected to write and submit research grant proposals to external agencies to fund the research program.
  • This position will also be expected to instruct and guide research personnel, including graduate and/or undergraduate students, and visiting scholars to gain teaching and mentoring experience.
 
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • PhD degree in Physical or Material Sciences and at least 3 years of post-doctoral experience is required
  • Strong publication record in optoelectronic and quantum materials, and energy devices
 
Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for own work.
  • Previous experience in writing grant applications and mentoring.
