About The Job
We are seeking a highly experienced Fisheries Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide expertise in the management, restoration, and scientific analysis of fish populations, in the Pacific Northwest. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in fisheries management, environmental impact analysis, technical writing, and GIS-based data analysis. The SME will be responsible for providing strategic insights, data analysis, and technical reports to support a variety of fisheries projects.

Duties and Responsibilities (may include some or all of the below):
- Provide expert analysis and recommendations on fisheries management, including the restoration and conservation of fish populations.
- Conduct in-depth data analyses using GIS tools and other relevant software to assess the impacts of environmental and anthropogenic factors on fish populations.
- Author and contribute to technical papers, reports, and scientific publications, including environmental impact assessments and biological assessments.
- Lead the development and implementation of fisheries monitoring and evaluation programs, focusing on assessing the effectiveness of habitat restoration and other conservation actions.
- Collaborate with federal and state agencies, non-governmental organizations, and research groups to support fisheries management and recovery programs.
- Contribute to the development of strategies for assessing the progress of recovery for endangered and threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
- Develop and maintain large datasets related to anadromous fish populations, habitat conditions, and monitoring efforts, integrating new data into GIS-based applications for easy accessibility and analysis.
- Serve as a technical liaison to share insights on fish population status, habitat conditions, and ongoing restoration efforts with internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
- Master's or equivalent advanced degree in Fisheries Biology, Aquatic Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in fisheries management, particularly in the Pacific Northwest region.
- Strong expertise in GIS mapping and data analysis, with proficiency in software such as ArcGIS, Microsoft Excel, and other data management tools.
- Proven ability to manage large, complex datasets and produce actionable insights for decision-making.
- Extensive experience writing technical reports, scientific publications, and environmental impact assessments.
- Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex scientific concepts to non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with fish passage planning and environmental monitoring systems.
- Experience with international fisheries conservation projects or fieldwork, particularly in the Pacific region.
Working Conditions:
- This job operates in an outdoor or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
- This job requires project site visits which are based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, moving vehicles and equipment.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
Proposed Salary Range: $55.00 - $80.00 hourly*
Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual's related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.
