The JC Raulston Arboretum is a nationally acclaimed garden with one of the largest and most diverse collections of landscape plants adapted for landscape use in the Southeast. Plants especially adapted to Piedmont North Carolina conditions are collected and evaluated in an effort to find superior plants for use in southern landscapes.It is part of the NC State University’s campus and offers a unique opportunity for students to study and enjoy this diverse collection of plants. Part of the Arboretum’s mission is to provide educational experiences to the general public, students of all ages, and the green industry. .
This paid summer internship allows students the chance to gain hands-on, valuable experience while having fun in the Arboretum’s gardens!
Duration of Internship:
Internship will run from May 12 until August 8, 2025
Work Schedule:
32-40/hrs per week, Monday-Friday, some weekend work required
Eligibility for Internship:
Full-time undergraduate student in a 2 year or 4-year college program, preferably majoring in horticulture, landscape design, botany or other plant related sciences. Students who graduate in Spring 2025 are eligible.

Minimum Experience/Education
- Full-time undergraduate student in a 2 year or 4-year college program, preferably majoring in horticulture, landscape design, botany or other plant related sciences.
Department Required Skills
- Experience working in the landscape maintenance field, greenhouse, nursery, estate management or public horticulture.
- Creative, energetic personality with joyful, sincere interest in working in an outdoor setting.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and solid interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to work effectively as part of the Arboretum Arboretum staff as well as with an eclectic group of Arboretum Volunteers, Arboretum Members and Visitors.
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials/30lbs ( plants,soil,hoses, etc) and operate garden equipment.
- Follow and complete instructions and work with common safety practices to protect yourself as well as fellow Arboretum staff
- Ability to pass a background check prior to hiring.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
- Experience in a greenhouse, garden center or public garden and/or coursework in botany or other plant related sciences
Required License or Certification
- CPR/First Aid certified or ability to be certified
- Valid driver’s license
