The Respiratory Therapist Supervisor will provide direct supervision to professionals and/or skilled technical employees. Functions as an advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.
Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives. Supervises respiratory therapists and may also supervise support staff; ensures productivity, patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes. Solves daily clinical, program and operational conflicts. Assists with ensuring program compliance with regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervises respiratory therapists and may also supervisor assistants and technicians. Provides scheduling, consultation, instruction and technical direction to staff. Mentors and orients new employees. Provides scheduling, timekeeping, training and direction for staff. Supervises clinical and technical aspects of respiratory services to ensure quality patient evaluations, treatment plans, and education. Assures that all policies and procedures are followed in accordance with the hospital, department and external regulations. Participates in implementation of initiatives to improve assessment, treatment, management, and control of respiratory and/or cardiopulmonary disorders.
Works with management to determine the most appropriate technology to facilitate therapy, support, and monitoring within established Respiratory procedures. Assists with administration and management of respiratory resources, supervising the use of supplies and ensuring resources are available. Recommends capital equipment requests. Coordinates patient care plans across multidisciplinary staff and assures the smooth transition of patient care operations. Provides guidance on developing care plans that meet respiratory policies and procedures and monitors delivery of care meets guidelines. Responds to inter and intra department concerns regarding clinical care issues.
Escalates issues to management and recommends improvements to policies and processes. Interviews, orients, and mentors new employees. Tracks attendance and utilization. Evaluates performance and defines development goals in alignment with department goals. Provides staff counseling and support. Assesses learning needs of staff and participates in development and implementation of in-services, educational programs and training. Facilitates clinical education of students. Assures registry and clinical databases adhere to protocols and guidelines. Trains staff in data entry and report generation. Provides direct patient care as needed for smooth daily operations (less than 50% of the time).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSNine (9) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience/training.
Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in the state of California.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Experience and proven success in clinical respiratory care operations, industry technology and equipment.
Ability to apply principles to an acute care setting to ensure respiratory program meet standards and regulations.
- Clinical specialty certification.
- Previous Supervisory experience.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $104,900 - $198,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $50.24 - $95.26
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
