Job Description:


The Transfer Coach reports to the Associate Dean of Student Success and will provide transfer coaching to students through appointments, drop-in and group sessions. The Transfer Coach will educate students, faculty members and staff on issues related to the transfer process in general and the requirements for receiving universities and colleges. The Transfer Coach will work in collaboration with the office of University Transfer and Initiatives, as well as other campus colleagues to assure robust support for all NOVA students seeking to transfer.

Duties and Tasks:
  • Engage in direct interactions, relationship building, and deliver
programming in support of NOVA students needing holistic social,
emotional, and academic support.
  • Keep accurate, up to date notes within Navigate to ensure continuity
of care.
  • Create, design, and facilitate workshops and programs for faculty
members, staff, current students, and prospective students on a
variety of transfer topics, including the transfer planning process,
transfer resources, transfer updates, and Transfer Virginia.Develop,
edit, and assist in the writing of the transfer newsletter/blog/website
/CANVAS site.
  • Collect data, track outcomes, and produce reports about students
seeking to transfer.
  • Manage challenging transfer cases referred from advisors and other
college personnel.
  • Meet regularly with colleagues on the Transfer Working Group and the
Director of University Transfer & Initiatives to actively support policy
and process improvement in collaboration with central student
services.
  • Initiate and coordinate all campus visits, workshops, fairs, and other
transfer events featuring four-year colleges and universities.
  • Work with colleagues in Academic Affairs and at other campuses to
provide a coordinated college approach to transfer events and
communications.
  • Offer support to the dual enrollment office to expand DE Coordinators
knowledge regarding Transfer Virginia and important transfer updates
pertinent to dual enrolled students’ transition to any VA institution.
  • Help students identify a transfer institution that is a strong fit for their
career goals, financial capabilities, and personal characteristics.
  • Collaborate on the gathering, analysis, interpretation, maintenance,
and dissemination of transfer information: GAA, Articulation
Agreements, and other transfer agreements held between NOVA and
partner institutions.
  • Design and gather data from informal/formal needs assessments to
build transfer programs.
  • Participate in walk-in advising.
  • Serve as a college liaison to university admissions representatives,
including embedded representatives on the NOVA campuses.
  • Serve as a liaison to advising teams.
  • Participate in College, task forces, pathway councils, leadership
committees, and working groups.
  • Participate in regular professional development as required and/or
relevant to the assigned work.

Special Assignments:
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
