Job Description

The Information systems and Operations Management (ISOM) department (https://www.uco.edu/business/academics/isom-department) seeks applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor who demonstrates a commitment to quality teaching.

Visiting faculty are employed by the university to teach or perform research for a limited time. This is a non-tenure track, temporary position. Service or research may be expected. This position teaches and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.

Expected to have a balanced commitment towards teaching, research, and service. Duties include teaching day/evening, undergraduate classes in hybrid formats. The successful candidate will work with students in and out of the classroom. Other responsibilities will include serving on departmental committees.

Teaching responsibilities include teaching the Introduction to Operations Management core class, as well as upper level elective classes in the major. Experience in/or demonstrate an interest in teaching graduate level courses covering Business Analytics, Data Visualization and/or analytics project-based classes.

  • Teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses and fulfilling the responsibilities associated with those courses
  • Maintaining a program of research leading to publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Providing suitable service to the department, university, profession, and/or community.
  • The selected candidate will be part of the Analytics and MIS faculty team and must be able to interact with a diverse population of students, staff, and collaborate well with peer faculty.

Experience Required:

  • PhD candidates within 5 years of graduation.
  • Other candidates should be a qualified scholarly academic per AACSB guidelines.

Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). **NOTE** If the doctorate is not obtained and submitted by the time of employment, the position rank will change to TT-Instructor.

Experience Preferred:

Preference will be given to applicants with quality teaching experience in several of the following areas

  • Databases and Data Warehouses
  • Python
  • Data Mining
  • Blockchain
  • Predictive Modelling using SAS, Python or R
  • Machine Learning

  • A demonstrated potential to publish quality scholarly research in their field and/or in discipline specific pedagogy.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Excellence in teaching and demonstrated potential to publish high quality scholarly research. Previous teaching experience in higher education environment at level of teaching assistant or higher is required. Candidate must provide evidence of teaching effectiveness/excellence. Oral and written communication skills. Willingness to teach in a variety of instructional modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, and online) as needed.
