RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions –
- Provide instruction for Public Health and Safety (PH&S) classroom and lab experiences, and other PH&S courses.
- Prepare students to become CPR, First Aid, First Responder, Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support providers.
- Assist the PH&S Coordinator with the development of courses within the PH&S program curriculum.
- Teaching assignments may include evening and Saturday courses and teaching alternative delivery methods of On-line, Hybrid, ITV, etc.
- Assist instruction with PH&S credit, non-credit contract classes, not limited to, but including: locations at area high schools, public safety/services facilities, and other Business and Industry facilities.
- Assist with the American Heart Association Training center maintaining accurate and comprehensive records.
- Assist with the American Safety and Health Institute Training center maintaining accurate and comprehensive records.
- Market Health and Safety course offerings throughout the HutchCC service area (prepare brochures, mailings etc.)
- Completion of administrative duties in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintain records and files as requested by the department as required.
- Maintain and prepare equipment for trainings.
- Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
- Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
Secondary –
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the PH&S Coordinator and the Director of Business and Industry.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Registered Nurse or Paramedic, current Kansas certification required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, both current Instructor cards and associated with a Training Center in good standings, required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, both current provider status, required.
- Valid Kansas Driver’s license, required.
- Proficient computer skills including: word, excel, power point and different video software.
- The ability to travel to outreach sites.
- The ability and willingness to teach via alternative delivery systems including ITV, internet, and/other distance education modes.
- Ability to incorporate study skills, adult learning theory, and teaching/learning strategies to improve student persistence and retention.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with staff, students, faculty and other HutchCC stakeholders.
- Ability to be attentive to detail, to accurately follow written and oral instructions, and to work independently.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in a student-centered environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and the willingness to collaborate.
- Experience in student recruitment preferred.
- Physical requirements include excellent written, verbal and listening communication skills: ability to lift equipment potentially up to 50 pounds: ability to understand words and respond effectively and appropriately: visual acuity to view a computer terminal: use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and curtesy in difficult situations: Light/Indoor work environment.
- Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.

WAGE and STATUS:
The hourly rate of pay is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. This part-time support staff position is 12 months annual (261 work days within a 12-month period). This position is KPERS (Retirement Plan) eligible, but is not eligible for additional benefits due to the part-time status; non-exempt.
