Summary of Functions
Provides law enforcement services to the Kalispel Tribe of Indians and enforces Tribal, Federal, and State laws. Investigates crimes and helps reduce Tribal liabilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Investigates criminal complaints and civil complaints when directed by the Chief of Police or designee. Gathers information and documents regarding crimes and allegations. Prepares and files detailed reports.
- Testifies in the appropriate court on behalf of the Tribe to further the chance of prosecution or to protect the Tribe’s assets.
- Patrols Tribal land and properties to enforce all laws and to provide protection and safety for all persons on Tribal lands. Responds to calls for service.
- Provides continuous public relations with other law enforcement and public agencies through presence, education, and assistance.

Physical Demands
- Requires the ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
- Significant portions of the job require extended sedentary periods in a patrol car; constant work with computers, including extended periods of keyboarding; and repetitive motion of hands and wrists.
- This position requires significant amounts of standing or walking.
- This position requires the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle to include operation at excessive speeds.
Testing Procedure
All excepted applicants will be required to pass a written and physical agility examination. Those who pass the first phase will continue to the Oral Board Interview followed by the Polygraph and Psychological exams as required by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to tobacco smoke, moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The worker is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions, which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions and to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Experience
Required- Must successfully attend and graduate from an approved Basic Law Enforcement Academy within one year of appointment. Have the ability to be certified with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the State of Washington Basic Law Enforcement Standards.
- No Felony Convictions
- No Misdemeanor Convictions within the last 5 years.
- No Criminal Traffic Convictions within the last 5 years.
- This position requires significant amounts of work to be performed outside general business hours. Significant week-ends, shift-work and on-call status are also required.
- Preference would be at least 1 year law enforcement experience in military or civilian agency. But is not necessary to apply.
Education
Required- High School or better in High School/General Educa
- Associates or better in Criminal Justice
