The Human Resources Senior Manager will support the organization in developing and implementing a cohesive human resources strategy to support our growing staff and achieve hiring and staff retention goals. This is a new position, reporting directly to the Executive Director and serving as part of the Ventures’ management team.
The Human Resources Senior Manager manages and coordinates organizational activities related to human resources and personnel support functions.
Job duties may include, but are not limited to, employment, compensation, benefits, payroll, organizational development, employee relations, performance management, affirmative action, training, recruitment, and safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- Recommends and develops policies and implements approved programs and policies designed to protect company and employee interests in accordance with company HR policies and governmental laws and regulations
- Identifies and comply with legal requirements and government reporting regulations
- Serves as a point of contact for the following: employment, compensation, benefits, payroll, organizational development, employee relations, performance management, affirmative action, training, recruitment, and safety
- Advises managers on organizational policy matters, such as equal employment opportunity and sexual harassment, and recommends needed changes
- Performs difficult staffing duties, including dealing with understaffing, refereeing disputes, firing employees, and administering disciplinary procedures
- Represents the organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations
- Works in collaboration with book keeper for payroll and benefits administration
- Researches and recommends staffing strategies which includes titles, job descriptions, compensation, organizational structure and supervisory lines to Executive Director
- Supports entire hiring process from posting and interviewing through selection and onboarding
- Supports staff retention through creation and implementation of a robust new hire orientation and Year One support strategy
- Participates in professional development strategies alongside Executive Director

- Fundamentals staff hiring including interviewing, hiring, and training employees.

Ability to:
- Work with a positive and professional attitude; ability to work well with diverse personalities, in a team or individually; excellent organizational and planning skills, and a high level of attention to detail.
- Organize, triage and prioritize competing human resource needs keeping organizational strategic priorities top of mind.
- Communicate effectively in writing to a diverse range of audiences including donors, volunteers, the media, and Ventures clients.
- Distill complex concepts and data into clear, concise, and compelling content that inspires action.
- Prioritize projects, take initiative, and meet deadlines.
- Serve as an ambassador of Ventures through strong interpersonal skills.
- Navigate Washington state and City of Seattle systems including Employment Security Department, Labor & Industries and Seattle Office of Labor Standards.
- Ensure proper record keeping including offer letters, position change forms, leave requests, and new staff forms.
- Interviewing, selecting, hiring, and onboarding staff into vacant positions.
- Monitoring supervisee morale and making efforts to facilitate a spirit of teamwork and camaraderie.
- Communicating performance expectations such as procedures, work schedule, etc., not detailed in the job description.
- Facilitating scheduled verbal and written performance reviews as specified in the employment policies, and addressing any immediate performance issues as they arise.
- Identifying conflicts and mediating with other supervisors or staff members to solve conflicts promptly.
- Making and communicating decisions to lay off or fire employees based on performance, financial, or other reasons.
- Management and proactive monitoring of department budget.
Experience:
- At least 8 years of experience Human Resources management of a company with a minimum of 20 employees.
- At least 5 years of organizational leadership and experience directly assisting in staff orientation and onboarding.
- Progressive responsibility in a role demanding initiative, and attention to detail.
- Current or previous experience in creating personnel policies, performance review tools and organizational systems to enhance staff accountability and empowerment.
- Preferred passion for small business ownership, entrepreneurship, and poverty alleviation; knowledge of the factors influencing small business success and the barriers faced by low-income and underserved or under-represented individuals to achieving financial stability.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
- Starting Salary/Rate: $70,000-$85,000 per year
- Subsidized Medical insurance – 90% of premiums paid for by Ventures, 50% of premiums for partners and dependents

DETAILS:
- Department: Executive
- Tax Class / FSLA Status: Exempt
- Supervisor: Executive Director
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Location: “The 2100 Building” - 2100 24th Avenue South, Suite 380, Seattle, WA 98144, Ventures requires employees to come into the office three days per week.
- An employment offer will be contingent upon the successful completion of professional references and a federal background check.
